Persians and Himalayans have long beautiful hair that requires extra care and attention. You should groom your kitten or cat at least every other day, preferably more, to prevent matts and tangles. To remove the mat, gently loosen with your fingers and try to brush it out. If this fails, you may have to cut down the middle with scissors. Be extra careful not to cut Kitty's skin! After you cut it, try it again loosen and then carefully brush it out. Do not forget to pay extra attention to your hair with your kitty's bottom. This likes to get tangled up quite often. For small kittens sometimes trim the hair on the back just to help keep them clean until you get old enough not good enough job on their own. Kittens should have access to their food and water 24 hours a day. They are growing so fast, they need as much food as they can get! You should never feed your kitten food adult cat. It does not have all the nutrients growing kittens need. Always feed them cat food.
I recommend that you do not change your kitten food until they've had at least 2 weeks. It is stressful enough coming to a new location, there is no reason to give them an upset stomach and diarrhea, possibly on top of everything else.
If you can not change your food, you should do it slowly over a period of at least one week. Mix a little new food in with the old, and slowly increase the amount until it is 100% new food.
Never feed a kitten or cat wet food only diet. This will cause tarter build up on your teeth and will cause many future problems, including loss of teeth. chewing and biting down action of the dry food cleans teeth. Wet food only to be given treats. If you must feed it to your kitty as a meal, be sure to include at least one meal a day with dry food.
